Supporting Everyone's Mental Health: A 3-Part Workshop Series
Event Description
Join Dr. Jayne Singer with Brazelton Touchpoints Institute for this series titled, “Supporting Everyone’s Mental Health,” consisting of three workshops.
Series Description: Developing social-emotional competence is a process that happens across the lifespan beginning at birth. Being emotionally and socially competent enables us to build the relationships necessary for our mental health. The collective stress of the pandemic has impacted everyone’s mental health. In this series, we will explore strategies to address this impact and heal through relationship-based care practices.
Workshop 1: Development of Social Emotional Competence in the Context of Trauma
March 5, 2024: 9:00AM-11:30AM
Workshop Description: Strong mental health is built on the development of social-emotional competence across the life span. We will explore how to identify where children and adults are in their process of developing key elements of emotional competence. The impact of trauma on developmental process will be examined so that participants can identify how trauma may be experienced and expressed differently depending upon a person’s age and developmental level. We will explore a strengths-based model of anticipating known periods of stress experienced by children and families throughout development and how trauma can impact this process.
Workshop 2: Relationship-based Practices for Enhancing Family-Child Relationships and Mental Health
March 26, 2024: 9:00AM-11:30AM
Workshop Description: Relationships serve as the foundation for mental health including family-child, provider-child and provider-family relationships. Increased stress can impact relationships as well as developmental processes. Explore how our own experience and perspective influences how we build relationships with families.
Workshop 3: Building Our Own Resilience and Mental Health
April 16, 2024: 9:00AM-11:30AM
Workshop Description: As providers, our own mental health has been impacted by the pandemic, further complicating any ongoing secondary traumatic stress that comes with working alongside the families we serve. Explore strategies for strengthening our own mental health and resilience.
